CCB Reunion Group
Under
sunny southern skies, the veterans and their wives began gathering pool side on
Wednesday night, June 7th. My first impression was an overwhelming air of
camaraderie and friendship. Even after forty years, the friendly bantering
between Armor, Infantry, and the 6th Field Artillery were equally represented,
and the honor and talents of each were well defended.
The
informal agenda allowed ample time for touring this beautiful city, greeting old
friends or making new ones. As the daytime hours were primarily open to any
desired activities, those with cars included and chauffeured those without
transportation. Lunches at Uncle Buds Seafood House "Catfish and
Chicken", and at Barbi-cuties were great. Saturday afternoon, the group
took a 4 hour lunch

excursion on the riverboat "General Jackson" for a
trip on the Cumberland River from Opry Land, to downtown Nashville, and
back. Its hard to beat a cool breeze in your face and a cold beverage in your
hand. Rumor has it that the ladies enjoyed some shopping trips to the mall at
Opry Land, while the old warriors shared "war stories" and lies back
at the Day Inn. The evening entertainment was
outstanding, Glen Honeycutt, Lonnie Daugherty, Wayne Rogers, Phil Mitchell,
Monica and Rachel Hudson, the Britt Brothers, and Joyce Irving were there to
entertain us on both Saturday night, and at the closing Sunday night luau. Yes,
if you spent time in Gelnhausen, or just wanted to share experiences of your
tour with the 3d Armored Division in Germany, this was the place to be. Hats off
to Johnny Hudson Jr. for organizing a great reunion. Its not official yet but it
looks like we'll all gather again next year in San
Antonio.
